Power 0304: Reality Hits Hard

demetria lucas August 8, 2016

In general, I’m not feeling Power this season. Everyone is getting on my nerves. I don’t like this Jamie and Angie thing. Like, other than sex, which doesn’t even seem all that good anymore, what do they have? Their relationship has gone from living in a fantasy to real world problems, which is real life, but it’s just not fun anymore.  They’re staying in Angie’s teeny apartment and living on top of each other, Angie can’t cook, demands of work put the relationship on the back burner, and they’re constantly annoyed with each other. Oh, and they’re both lying by omission to each other all the time. The one thing Angie has going for her is that she believes in Jamie and his attempt to live by the law, which Tasha couldn’t fathom. I wonder how many times James has thought about the 80/20 rule. Tasha wasn’t perfect, but she had a lot that Angie lacks. Maybe Jamie should have tried harder to get Tasha on board with his living clean vision.

I also never liked Holly, and there’s a lot of her this season. She’s also more annoying than ever before, badgering Tommy to kill Ghost, his best friend from at least junior high school. There’s a lot of Tommy too, who I like, but prefer in smaller doses. I also don’t like Tasha  having Lala involved in some nefarious ish that Tasha hasn’t told her about. I get the logic that it’s best that Lala has plausible deniability if something goes awry with the business. But, it’s still grimy.

What I do like? I actually love Annika Noni Rose and I enjoy watching her take on an unexpected role and kill it, but without knowing her end game or motivation, I don’t get her either… yet. The scenes with her and Fiddy seem like a whole separate show. I also never liked Fiddy on the show.

AFTER THE SHOW: CATCHING UP WITH "POWER" CREATOR COURTNEY KEMP AGBOH

demetria lucas August 20, 2015

You know how much I love "Power"! So you can only imagine how happy I was when the show's creator, head writer, and show runner, Courtney Kemp Agboh, agreed to an interview for ABIB.  I liked her before our chat (in the same way that I like David Simon from The Wire)  because she's created a show that I obsess over. But post-interview? I'm officially in love! In addition to being all things awesome, Agboh is a former magazine girl (just like me) turned Hollywood powerhouse (um, not me... yet).

Power Recap Season 2 Finale: Ghose Is Dead!!!

demetria lucas August 16, 2015

"Marlo" aka Drifty is communing with the ancestors, (i.e, practicing voodoo) when an unidentified shooter murks him. He leaves behind… a tarot card of a spider? Huh?

Over in Angie land, she’s going though her old diary and finds a picture of her and Jamie from when they were kids. She’s also packing a bag. Then suddenly, she's sitting in a chair at the end of a hallway. Jamie calls. She sends him to voicemail. Huh?  Where is Angie going?
