Dressing Downton: Inside the Closets (and Corsets) of Downton Abbey

Elbow gloves, lariat necklaces, extravagant headpieces and meticulous beading were all the rage at the "Dressing Downton" a exhibition highlighting 40 years of fashion as seen on the international hit TV show Downton Abbey. I caught the now defunctshowing at the Virginia Historical Society in Richmond. No worries, “Dressing Downton” opens at the Richard H. Fairy Tale Fashion at the FIT Museum

The idea behind the exhibition is that the phrase "fairy tale" is used in fashion circles to describe clothing that is particularly ornate and seemingly out of reach. Clothing also plays a significant role in fairytales, think Cinderella's ball gown or glass slippers; or Little Red Riding Hood's, well hood. The curators used garments and accessories from the 18th century to present-day to fuse the phrase "fairy tale" and actual "fairytales" into a magical display
